The Department of Publishing and Editing is one of the oldest in the Publishing and Printing Institute of KPI. Igor Sikorsky. It was organized in 1959 - the year of the founding of the Kyiv Evening Faculty of the Ukrainian Polygraphic Institute. I. Fedorov (now - the Ukrainian Academy of Printing in Lviv).
 
In different years, the department was headed by well-known editors, journalists, scientists: Ph.D. philol. Science D.Ya. Shlapak (1959–1964), Ph.D. philol. AI Rudnytsky (1965–1966), prof. SM Shakhovsky (1966–1975), Cand. artist, prof. BV Valueenko (1975–1990), Dr. philol. Sciences, Prof. RG Ivanchenko (1990–2004), Dr. N. soc. Candidate of Technical Sciences, Professor OV Trischuk (since 2004).
 
Today the department is headed by Doctor of Sciences in Social Communications, Professor Olga V. Trischuk, who has been working here since 1990.
 

The main task of the department is to train highly qualified specialists in editing and advertising of books, magazines, newspapers and other printed products; to help them master the set of knowledge related to the creation and dissemination of a competitive publishing product suitable for the modern market; to acquaint future specialists with practical and scientific-applied bases of advertising and PR, to teach to create competitive printed and electronic publishing products, to organize editorial-publishing, advertising process in book, newspaper and magazine editions, in electronic mass media, and also to teach to promote publishing products in the market , bring them to the reader, consumer, create a high image policy of editorial and publishing and other economic structures. The purpose of teachers of the department is intellectual, professional, personal development of the student - scientific, educational and upbringing activities are subordinated to it.

During the existence of the department, more than 2000 thousand people have mastered the editorial specialty, which became the basis of the editorial staff of Kyiv. Among them are members of the Writers' Union of Ukraine, the Union of Journalists, honored workers of the industry. Our graduates work in leading publishing houses, newspapers, magazines in Ukraine and abroad, on radio and television.

The educational process in KPI. Igor Sikorsky, Publishing and Printing Institute and in particular at the graduating department is carried out by highly qualified scientific and pedagogical staff. In total, the department has 22 full-time teachers, including: 2 professors, doctors of sciences, 17 candidates of sciences, 13 associate professors, 5 senior teachers, 1 assistant, 1 honored cultural figure.

The formation of the full-time teaching staff has its own history and takes place, in particular, at the expense of graduates of the department (OO Yanishevsky, OM Levchuk, RI Segol, OA Golovko, SB Fialka, O O. Gusak, AP Kyrychok), which indicates the existence of traditions and development of the scientific school.
 
Teachers have appropriate basic education, experience of practical, industrial, scientific and pedagogical work, conduct creative and scientific research in the disciplines, regularly publish research results in professional journals, participate in scientific conferences and seminars.
 
Research work is properly organized at the department. The sphere of scientific interests of the teachers of the department is the study of theoretical and practical problems of social communications, editorial activity, publishing, journalism, advertising, coverage of topical issues of the text in the modern information space. Research topics developed at the department: "Communication in scientific and scientific-informational spheres", "Features of editing different types of publications", "Political counseling as a social phenomenon of improving the effectiveness of mass political communications."
During the existence of the department 6 of its employees defended doctoral dissertations, 17 - PhD.
 
Employees of the Department of Publishing and Editing are constantly improving their knowledge and undergo internships in various institutions. Teacher training is provided through internships at the Parliamentary Publishing House, the Press of Ukraine, Kyivska Pravda, the Ukrainian Institute of Information Technologies in Education (UIITO) of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Institute of Higher Education of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, and the Taras Shevchenko Institute of Journalism. Linguistics, Taras Shevchenko Institute of Literature, Slovo i Chas magazine, Institute of Media Technologies (Stuttgart), University of Technology and Design (Leipzig), Academy of Printing and Media Technologies (Heidelberg).
 
The department cooperates with the relevant departments of Ukrainian universities, where the specialty "Journalism" is opened.
 
The department has a student editorial office, a laboratory of desktop publishing systems, where students can improve their skills, master the editorial and advertising profession.
 
Since 2009, another training under the educational program "Advertising and Public Relations" has been opened. Profile disciplines: "Preparation of different types of books", "Editing educational literature", "Editing children's literature", "Editing translation", "Automation of editorial and publishing process", "Fundamentals of journalism", "Creative in advertising and PR", "Organization of the press service "," Imageology "," Heuristics. Theory and practice of argumentation "," Branding ".Teachers of the Department of Publishing and Editing constantly conduct educational work on the professional orientation of students. As part of the courses "Applied Socio-Communication Technologies", "Intellectual Property", students master the skills of successful employment and create real publishing and advertising products. Thus, the educational process is as close as possible to the real production process, which allows you to practice the practical skills of future professionals in the field of publishing, advertising and PR in real conditions, involving the setting of real problems and their solution.

The department tries to employ students at the stage of study, using long-term traditional ties with publishing and printing organizations, institutions, editorial offices, advertising agencies, PR departments of economic structures. Much attention is paid to the practice, during which business leaders have the opportunity to look closely at our students, assess the quality of their training and without fear to offer them a job, and students - to gain professional and business skills. Due to this, employment of our graduates is not a problem. During the period from 2010 to 2016, 100% of the number of state orders was allocated to their work. Feedback from the heads of enterprises, organizations, institutions, both public and private sectors of the industry where our graduates work, is positive. The conformity of students' training to modern state requirements and their adaptation to work in market conditions is noted, which allows to hold the positions specified in the qualification characteristics. Graduates work in the following positions: editor, senior editor, editor-in-chief, proofreader, journalist, head of the editorial and publishing department of a research institution, educational institution, mass media and special communication, head of the advertising and public relations department, press secretary, information management manager, advertising manager, public relations specialist, communication expert in parties and other public organizations.

Properly provided with pedagogical and scientific staff, the graduating department was formed as an authoritative team in the scientific, student, professional environment, as an intellectual and creative force. There is every reason to expect the formation of a self-sufficient scientific school with an appropriate vision of scientific issues, methodology of its research, solid experience, active followers from among the graduates who acquire the specialty.

 

OLGA TRISCHUK

Head of the Department, Doctor in Social Communication Studies Field

The member of the scientific-methodical commission of Journalism and Information with Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the member of specialized scientific council D 26.001.34 at  Kyiv National University named after Taras Shevchenko and Academic Council of National Technical University of Ukraine "KPI" as well as the Academic Council of Publishing and Printing Institute.

Over the years has prepared 3 PhDs in  Social Communication Field, 1 PhD in Philology. She has published more than 100 scientific works, including 1 monograph, 1 tutorial, 2 manuals.

Research and scientific interests are theoretical and methodological support for communication processes of scientific information sphere; theoretical and practical problems of social communication and editing.

LIDYA SMOLA

Doctor of Political Science, Professor

The circle of scientific interests include research methodology of information and psychological influences, techniques for propaganda and counterpropaganda campaigns, political processes, image-making and branding.

Author of training programs on leadership, creativity, public speaking, corporatism, self-management and features for creating an image.

Author of 62 scientific articles and more than 100 feature articles and commentaries in Ukrainian and foreign media. Co-author of the text-book Politics, published under the auspices of the British Council and t recommended  by the Ministry of Education and Science for universities under the Ministry of Defense. She published a monograph Propaganda as Information and Psychological Component of Modern Political Process (2005), Determinants of Political Process. Theoretical and Political Analysis in Information and Psychological Dimensions (2010). In 2010 co-authored and published analytical and prognostic study Limits to Fall - Ukrainian Versions of the Future (Stuttgart, Germany).

At the Department teaches the following courses: Eristic. Theory and practice of argumentation, Social Science, Research Methodology in Social Communication, Image-Making, Rhetoric,  Branding.

LUDMYLA VOLKOTRUB

PhD in History, Assistant Professor

Graduated from the Kyiv National University named after Taras Shevchenko. In 1998  defended  PhD thesis in history and later obtained the title of associate professor.

At the Department teaches the following courses: History Publishing, General and Special Bibliography, the Foundations of Scientific  Research, Documentation and Book Science.

The author of 60 scientific and educational works on the history of publishing, bibliography.

Scientific research interests are lay within history and modern state of Ukrainian and international publishing, history of magazines publishing, books art.

LUBOV HRIDNEVA

PhD in Philology, Assistant Professors

Graduated from Leningrad State University in 1965, defended PhD thesis in 1973.

Since 1981 became a teacher at Kyiv Evening Faculty of Ukrainian Publishing Institute.

At the department teaches the following courses: Ukrainian Language for Professional Communication, Logical Foundations of Editing.

The author of over 70 scientific articles, among them such text books as Ukrainian Business Language, Professional Ukrainian Speech.

Scientific research interests are lay within logical foundations editing, morphology, Ukrainian grammar.

OLENA LEVCHUK

PhD in Philology, Assistant Professors

In 1996 graduated from Kyiv Polytechnic Institute with the degree in Publishing and Editing as  literary editor. Specializes in editorial preparation of encyclopedia, bibliography, local history books.

In 1992-2001 years worked as an editor, executive secretary of the KPI newspaper Kyiv Polytechnic, participated in the preparation of materials for compilation edition Who's Who in the KPI: Professors of National Technical University of Ukraine "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" (Kyiv, 1998). As a result of post-graduate studies (under prof. R. Ivanchenko) published a monograph Knyhospilka: Establishment of Cooperative Publishing in Ukraine (Kyiv, 2000). Together with Associate Professor O. Hotsyanivskym produced a biographical sketch Rector of KPI O.  Plyhunov (K., 2004),  literary and art publication Director of KPI M. Konovalov (Kyiv, 2008).

At the Department teaches specialized courses Proofreading and Editing, Media, Newspaper and Magazine Publishing, Theory of the Media.

Author of over 20 publications on topics of publishing organizations and initiatives history, some personalities in Ukrainian publishing, media issues,  development in regulations of professional media sphere. One of the developers of universal curriculum of the course New Media: Fundamentals of Infographic within the project "Improving the Quality of Professional Education in New Media and Communication Technologies in Regional Teaching Establishments (2010-2011).

NADYA FIGOL

PhD in Philology, Assosiated Professor

In 2006 has defended PhD thesis on Eugene Chykalenko and Rada newspaper in shaping the language of the press in late XIX - early XX century, after that has obtained the title of associate professor.

From 2004 till 2009 - scientific secretary of the Department of Publishing and Editing.

From 2007 till 2009 - scientific secretary of Printing and Publishing Institute of National Technical University of Ukraine "KPI".

From 2013 - Deputy Head of the Department of Publishing and Editing.

Published by more than 30 scientific and educational works, including 2 tutorials labeled with Ministry of Education and Science, 2 teaching collections, 1 Dictionary and numerous articles in professional journals.

Scientific research interests are lays within linguistic-stylistic peculiarities of Ukrainian publications, editorial features and creating e-learning training publications.

OLEKSANDR YANISHEWSKI

PhD in Philology, Associated Professor

Graduated from the Printing and Publishing Faculty of Kiev Polytechnic Institute in 1994 with degree in Publishing and Editing.

Fluent in Polish (writes, reads, translates).

January 24, 2006 he publicly defended his PhD thesis at the Specialized Academic Council D 26.001.39 at Kyiv National University named after Taras Shevchenko  themed Prose of Vaclav Honsorovskoho: Genesis and structure of historical discourse (specialty 10.01.03 - Literature of the Slavic peoples). For a long time he has worked at the National Institute for Strategic Studies where he led the editorial and publishing sector whose task was the publication of high-level scientific monographs, printing staff of the institution. Monographs preparing by this sector were honored at the IV Contest Artist and Publishing in Ukraine which was organized by the Ukrainian Foundation for the publishing and media.

Scientific research interests are closely connected with the history of Polish literature, Polish Studies in general, publishing (especially in the publishing industry standardization, technical editing), as evidenced by the numerous publications in professional magazines and active participation in the annual thematic conferences.

Currently working on a book on the literary heritage of the famous Polish writer Vaclav Honsorovskoho and researching for materials for future doctoral thesis.

Psychologist and image-maker practical, a member of the Association of Political Psychology of Ukraine. Systematically analyzes the advertising and PR-communications in Ukraine for later coverage in scientific publications.

Deputy Director of Publishing and Printing Institute NTUU KPI for Distance Learning.

From 2009 to 2012 studied at the post-graduate in Institute of Journalism and after graduation defended thesis on Social Network as a Phenomenon of the Modern Media Environment (specialty 27.00.07 - Social Science).

In the 2012-2013 taught at the department of advertising and marketing Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics (Senior Lecturer).

Published 15 scientific papers and has over 500 publications in various media.

Graduated from the Publishing and Printing Department of National Technical University of Ukraine "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" in 2000, specialty "Publishing and Editing." Worked as an editor, senior editor publisher of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine "Parliamentary Publishing" (1998-2004), senior lecturer at Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts (January-June 2003), assistant, associated professor of publishing and editing of Journalism Institute of Kyiv National University named after Taras Shevchenko (from 2004 till today).

In 2008 defended PhD thesis on "Publication of legal literature in Ukraine: History, typoloho-themed editorial and publishing aspects."

From January 2013 is working part-time at the Department of Publishing and Editing. Teaches courses: Publishing and Editing, Internet Journalism, Computer Graphics.

The author of over 30 papers on the theory of publishing, bibliography, book science, the book "Culture Publishing of Ukrainian Legal Literature", textbook "Fundamentals of Computer Graphics", "General and Special Bibliography", guidelines for drawing up lists of bibliographic records sources to research papers.

Research interests: theory publishing and editing in the digital environment, bibliography, book science, online journalism.

Graduated from Kyiv National University named after Taras Shevchenko, Institute of Journalism, Master of Journalism, PhD in social communication studies. Defended thesis on "The influence of figurative journalism (photos and infographic) on the perception of textual information." The author of over 20 scientific papers and textbook "The practice of digital video recording and editing."

Member of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine. Has hands-on experience on regional television and a private TV production studio. Led regional press service of political parties, public relations and media departments in the executive bodies and for local authorities.

Research interests: features of PR-activity in media industry and publishing, the effectiveness of social advertising, visualization in applied social communications.

За кафедрою видавничої справи та редагування закріплені окремі приміщення в навчальному корпусі 8, який знаходиться за адресою: вул. академіка Янгеля, 1/37, а саме: фотолабораторія (36 м2), комп’ютерний клас (70 м2), 2 викладацькі (54 м2), методичний кабінет (18 м2), архів (8 м2), кабінет дипломного проектування (18 м2). Крім того, у навчальному процесі використовуються інші приміщення та лабораторії Видавничо-поліграфічного інституту. При викладанні дисциплін загально-університетськими кафедрами в навчальному процесі використовуються лабораторії та комп’ютерні класи КПІ ім. Ігоря Сікорського.

Отже, кафедра повністю забезпечена обладнанням для проведення лабораторних та практичних робіт. Водночас, устаткування постійно оновлюється, лабораторна база кафедри розширюється. Бібліотека кафедри поповнюється нормативно-методичною та фаховою літературою.

У 2010-2011 рр. для оптимізації навчального процесу придбано два проектори NEC-NP110, екран Elite Screens 85” та ноутбуки Samsung P29 – 1 і Acer LXPLX02.466, у 2019 р. – ноутбук Dell Inspirion 3573 (35N44H5IHD_WBK).

Дві викладацькі кімнати обладнані 4 комп’ютерами.

У 2019-2020 рр. придбано 16 сучасних комп'ютерів для комп'ютерного класу, де проходять практичні заняття та комп’ютерні практикуми. 10 комп’ютерів (ПК №3 DiaWest (Intel Core i5-8400/s1151/8GB2666 MYz/HDD1000Gb/HDGraphics/400W/мон.19.5”LG20MP48A-P) придбали у 2019 році, а 2020 року – 6 комп’ютерів (ПК Prime PC Solo30 – (IH310)/i3-8100 3,60 GHz/UHD Graphics 630/8192MB DDR4-2666/1000Gb HDD/SSD240GB 2.5"/Acer 21.5”).

MATERIAL AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Publishing and Editing is assigned separate rooms in the educational building 8, which is located at: st. Academician Yangel, 1/37, namely: laboratories (120 m2), computer classes (70 m2), 2 teaching (36 m2) methodical office (18 m2), archive (8 m2), diploma design office (18 m2) ). In addition, other premises and laboratories of the Publishing and Printing Institute are used in the educational process. Laboratories and computer classes of KPI are used in teaching disciplines by general university departments in the educational process. Igor Sikorsky.

Thus, the department is fully equipped with equipment for laboratory and practical work. At the same time, the equipment is constantly updated, the laboratory base of the department is expanding. The library of the department is replenished with normative-methodical and professional literature.

In 2010-2011, two NEC-NP110 projectors, an Elite Screens 85 ”projector and Samsung P29-1 and Acer LXPLX02.466 laptops were purchased to optimize the learning process.

In 2018-2019, 15 modern computers for the computer class were purchased, where practical classes and computer workshops in such disciplines as "Layout and layout", "Computer graphics", "Computer competence" are held. , "Automation of editorial and publishing processes", "Internet journalism", "Website support", "Electronic publications", "Internet media editing", "Internet advertising and SEO-promotion".

Also in 2019, 3 laptops and 2 projectors were purchased.
