The main task of the department is to train highly qualified specialists in editing and advertising of books, magazines, newspapers and other printed products; to help them master the set of knowledge related to the creation and dissemination of a competitive publishing product suitable for the modern market; to acquaint future specialists with practical and scientific-applied bases of advertising and PR, to teach to create competitive printed and electronic publishing products, to organize editorial-publishing, advertising process in book, newspaper and magazine editions, in electronic mass media, and also to teach to promote publishing products in the market , bring them to the reader, consumer, create a high image policy of editorial and publishing and other economic structures. The purpose of teachers of the department is intellectual, professional, personal development of the student - scientific, educational and upbringing activities are subordinated to it.
During the existence of the department, more than 2000 thousand people have mastered the editorial specialty, which became the basis of the editorial staff of Kyiv. Among them are members of the Writers' Union of Ukraine, the Union of Journalists, honored workers of the industry. Our graduates work in leading publishing houses, newspapers, magazines in Ukraine and abroad, on radio and television.
The educational process in KPI. Igor Sikorsky, Publishing and Printing Institute and in particular at the graduating department is carried out by highly qualified scientific and pedagogical staff. In total, the department has 22 full-time teachers, including: 2 professors, doctors of sciences, 17 candidates of sciences, 13 associate professors, 5 senior teachers, 1 assistant, 1 honored cultural figure.
The department tries to employ students at the stage of study, using long-term traditional ties with publishing and printing organizations, institutions, editorial offices, advertising agencies, PR departments of economic structures. Much attention is paid to the practice, during which business leaders have the opportunity to look closely at our students, assess the quality of their training and without fear to offer them a job, and students - to gain professional and business skills. Due to this, employment of our graduates is not a problem. During the period from 2010 to 2016, 100% of the number of state orders was allocated to their work. Feedback from the heads of enterprises, organizations, institutions, both public and private sectors of the industry where our graduates work, is positive. The conformity of students' training to modern state requirements and their adaptation to work in market conditions is noted, which allows to hold the positions specified in the qualification characteristics. Graduates work in the following positions: editor, senior editor, editor-in-chief, proofreader, journalist, head of the editorial and publishing department of a research institution, educational institution, mass media and special communication, head of the advertising and public relations department, press secretary, information management manager, advertising manager, public relations specialist, communication expert in parties and other public organizations.
Properly provided with pedagogical and scientific staff, the graduating department was formed as an authoritative team in the scientific, student, professional environment, as an intellectual and creative force. There is every reason to expect the formation of a self-sufficient scientific school with an appropriate vision of scientific issues, methodology of its research, solid experience, active followers from among the graduates who acquire the specialty.

За кафедрою видавничої справи та редагування закріплені окремі приміщення в навчальному корпусі 8, який знаходиться за адресою: вул. академіка Янгеля, 1/37, а саме: фотолабораторія (36 м2), комп’ютерний клас (70 м2), 2 викладацькі (54 м2), методичний кабінет (18 м2), архів (8 м2), кабінет дипломного проектування (18 м2). Крім того, у навчальному процесі використовуються інші приміщення та лабораторії Видавничо-поліграфічного інституту. При викладанні дисциплін загально-університетськими кафедрами в навчальному процесі використовуються лабораторії та комп’ютерні класи КПІ ім. Ігоря Сікорського.
Отже, кафедра повністю забезпечена обладнанням для проведення лабораторних та практичних робіт. Водночас, устаткування постійно оновлюється, лабораторна база кафедри розширюється. Бібліотека кафедри поповнюється нормативно-методичною та фаховою літературою.
У 2010-2011 рр. для оптимізації навчального процесу придбано два проектори NEC-NP110, екран Elite Screens 85” та ноутбуки Samsung P29 – 1 і Acer LXPLX02.466, у 2019 р. – ноутбук Dell Inspirion 3573 (35N44H5IHD_WBK).
Дві викладацькі кімнати обладнані 4 комп’ютерами.
У 2019-2020 рр. придбано 16 сучасних комп'ютерів для комп'ютерного класу, де проходять практичні заняття та комп’ютерні практикуми. 10 комп’ютерів (ПК №3 DiaWest (Intel Core i5-8400/s1151/8GB2666 MYz/HDD1000Gb/HDGraphics/400W/мон.19.5”LG20MP48A-P) придбали у 2019 році, а 2020 року – 6 комп’ютерів (ПК Prime PC Solo30 – (IH310)/i3-8100 3,60 GHz/UHD Graphics 630/8192MB DDR4-2666/1000Gb HDD/SSD240GB 2.5"/Acer 21.5”).
Також є можливість зробити 3D-екскурсію головним корпусом, Політехнічним музеєм та Науково-технічною бібліотекою університету, пройтися алеєю Слави та Майданом знань. Зробити це можна за посиланням http://3d.kpi.ua.

MATERIAL AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Publishing and Editing is assigned separate rooms in the educational building 8, which is located at: st. Academician Yangel, 1/37, namely: laboratories (120 m2), computer classes (70 m2), 2 teaching (36 m2) methodical office (18 m2), archive (8 m2), diploma design office (18 m2) ). In addition, other premises and laboratories of the Publishing and Printing Institute are used in the educational process. Thus, the department is fully equipped with equipment for laboratory and practical work. At the same time, the equipment is constantly updated, the laboratory base of the department is expanding. The library of the department is replenished with normative-methodical and professional literature.
In 2010-2011, two NEC-NP110 projectors, an Elite Screens 85 ”projector and Samsung P29-1 and Acer LXPLX02.466 laptops were purchased to optimize the learning process.
In 2018-2019, 15 modern computers for the computer class were purchased, where practical classes and computer workshops in such disciplines as "Layout and layout", "Computer graphics", "Computer competence" are held. , "Automation of editorial and publishing processes", "Internet journalism", "Website support", "Electronic publications", "Internet media editing", "Internet advertising and SEO-promotion".
Also in 2019, 3 laptops and 2 projectors were purchased. The availability of portable screens, projectors and laptops has improved the quality of teaching disciplines that require the display of graphics and video materials, such as "Social Informatics", "Network Communication", "Creative PR Technologies" and more. This technique is also used by students to prepare and demonstrate the results of independent work.
As a basis for practical classes and undergraduate practice are used Publishing and Printing Complex "Polytechnic" VPI, branches VPI, Parliamentary Publishing House, news agencies "Interfax-Ukraine", "Ukrinform", publishing house "Scientific Thought", "Higher School", "Education" , SE "Press of Ukraine", LLC "New Print", CJSC HC "Blitz-Inform", SE "Printing plant for the production of securities" Ukraine ", publishing houses" Wolf "," Litton ", etc.
